ABOUT AMY
Yorkshire-based pianist Amy Butler studied with British concert pianist Martin Roscoe and holds a first class Master's degree from the University of Oxford.
Amy performs as a soloist, ensemble player and accompanist throughout the UK and abroad. A keen chamber musician, she regularly performs in duo with award-winning artists including violinists Boglárka György and Katy Smith, soprano Victoria Harley and flautist Chris Hill. She comprises one half of the Luna Piano Duo, alongside pianist Graziana Presicce, and is a member of the Dash Quartet alongside flautist Della Blood, oboist Helena Bidder and clarinettist Sharon Walker.
Amy has performed for many venues and music societies, with recent highlights including Stratford-upon-Avon Music Society, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Worcester Concert Club, Melrose Music Society, Balliol College Musical Society (Oxford), St. Mary's Perivale (London), Warwick Arts Centre, Cross Street Chapel (Manchester), New Paths Music (Beverley) and the Guild of Musicians and Singers (London).
“…this was a rewarding recital of great musical integrity in which the players’ virtuosity and technical skill was directed towards realising the composers’ intentions”
Paul Conway, Musical Opinion
“Boglárka and Amy provided us with plenty to appreciate: their wonderful programme was a perfect showcase for their individual brilliance and combined rapport,
nothing short of magical”
Rhymney Valley Music Club
In addition to her love of the 'traditional' classical repertoire, Amy also enjoys performing contemporary music and working with living composers. In 2023 Amy and piano duo partner Graziana Presicce gave the world premiere of Fado Fantasy, a new work for piano four hands written specially for the duo by award-winning British composer Frederick Viner, and in 2025 they gave the world premiere of Lester Hough's Concertante for piano four hands. The duo also recently made their first studio recording – an album of works by Ravel, Viner and York Bowen – supported by generous grants from the Francis Routh Trust and the Hull Philharmonic Trust; the album is scheduled for release in 2026 on the Prima Facie label. In 2024 Amy and violinist Boglárka György gave the second public performance of Dawn Walters' Dalton Holme, composed earlier that year, and they have also championed recent works by Australia-born composer Sadie Harrison and Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür.
In recent years Amy has had the privilege of participating in masterclasses with leading musicians including Daniel Tong, Victor Sangiorgio, Krysia Osostowicz, Robin Ireland and David Patrick.
Amy is a firm believer in the power of music to inspire, uplift and bring people together. In addition to her concert work, she is a staff pianist for the East Riding Schools' Music Service, coaching and accompanying students from Grade 1 to Diploma level and beyond. She is also the accompanist for three Yorkshire-based choirs: Beverley Male Voice Choir, Sing2gether and Snaith & District Choral Society. Amy has been involved as a performer at many schools' and children's outreach concerts, as well as at numerous civic, community and private events, and has also worked as a musician for the charity Music in Hospitals and Care. She also regularly plays orchestral piano and celesta, performing with ensembles such as the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2019 Amy co-founded Howdenshire Music, a thriving classical concert series based in Howden, East Yorkshire.
